MySpace, Facebook and the lot

The social networking scene has been exploding over the last few years as more and more are logging on to meet and greet.  For many Facebook and Myspace are the only ways people can stay in contact.  Friends move and now you don’t lose them.  But there is a dark side.  The social shun.

I know I’ve got a Facebook and a myspace, and while I may have more friends than I know on them, I am still alone.  Even comments and messages are pointless.  Why?  Because they mean nothing.  MySpace and Facebook are detached realities.  They allow everyone to feel wanted until they realize no one on it is telling the truth.  When you don’t talk face to face you don’t get the truth.  Comments on MySpace don’t carry over to real life.  Your friends may have a MySpace and you may be #1 on their top friends, but do they care anymore about you than they did before that.  No.  these social networks are shames disguised as networking friendships.  Just because myspace says you are in a relationship doesn’t mean you really are.  Its like a blind date, no one can really know til you see them.

The question becomes, what should be done about this? Should anything be done?  Or is it simply “beware of liars, cheats, and bears, Oh my!”
